About Cazenovia

Cazenovia, NY is a village in the Town of Cazenovia. Cazenovia is on the southeast shore of Cazenovia Lake in Madison County in central New York, southeast of Syracuse.

Cazenovia was established in 1794 by John Lincklaen, a young Dutch naval officer. The village was then incorporated in 1810. In 1850, Cazenovia was the site of the famous convention to protest the proposed Fugitive Slave Act. The convention was organized by abolitionist Gerrit Smith and chaired by former slave Frederick Douglass. Many historic places lie in Cazenovia, such as the Lehigh Valley Railroad Depot, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Cazenovia is a quaint town. Many shops and restaurants are locally owned, giving it a close-knit feel. Cazenovia Central School District services Cazenovia and Cazenovia College is a private college located by the high school, perfect for further education.
